The demands on technical translations

Producing a technical translation is a demanding task. Mistakes or inaccuracies in a technical translation can lead to material or non-material damage. For this reason, translators in this field must possess grounded specialised knowledge. In addition, clients in the technical field often use their own terminology databases containing translations of technical terms which they, in their texts, uniformly translate into the respective target language. They expect the translator to translate the technical terms into the target language in accordance with the corresponding terminology database.  Inconsistent translation of just a single term in scientific and technical texts can quickly lead to comprehensibility problems. Lastly, technical firms often publish edited versions of their technical documents and expect rapid translation of the added text segments. Without the use of appropriate translation software, this would be impossible.

My qualification

I possess three years of experience as a translator of technical texts for the languages English and Russian in combination with German. Through my study of physics in Canada and Germany, I have acquired specialised knowledge in several fields of science and technology. This knowledge allows me to accurately understand technical source texts and consequently translate them correctly. I work with one of the leading CAT tools on the market, SDL Trados 2019. This program allows the use of  existing and the creation of one’s own terminology databases. In addition, it saves translations that have already been finished to translation memory so that they can be reused if the translator is confronted with similar or the same text/text segments in the future. I thus guarantee consistency, efficiency and high quality for translations of technical texts.
